Description |
||||
NGC6992 was originally discovered by William Herschel in 1784 in the constellation of Cygnus. The Network Nebula is only the eastern section of a much larger object called the Veil Nebula. The Veil Nebula, which appears as a giant loop of Hydrogen Alpha ionized gas, is a large-scale remnant of a supernova that occurred approximately 30,000 to 40,000 years ago and is still expanding at a speed of 116 kilometers per second. This is one of the oldest known supernova remnants and lies about 2,500 light years from Earth. This was one of Jimmy's first images using the SSRO equipment. |
