NGC 2626 in Vela/Puppis

NGC 2626 is a spectacular detail within the broad panorama of the Vela/Puppis section of the southern Milky Way. As a reflection nebula, it receives most, but not all, of its light from an embedded B1 V star. NGC 2626 is contained within the large HII region, RCW 27. A major contributor to the ionization of RCW 27 is the O star HD 73882, west of NGC 2626. A distance of about 1 kpc has been found for the young stars associated with RCW 27. NGC 2626 is joined to a dark dust cloud cataloged as DC 259.94−0.0. Several Hα emission?line stars were already known in the surroundings of NGC 2626, some are faint and are likely T Tauri stars.
