IC356

IC356 is a tightly wound spiral galaxy in the constellation Camelopardalis.  This galaxy lies in the same direction as IC342 and there are significant amounts of dust in this direction and this leads to some reddening of the galaxy.  At the same time, this image was color calibrated with eXcalibrator (thanks Bob) and that may remove some of the color.

This galaxy also contains a linear dust lane -- visible near the 12:00 position.  The other galaxies seen in this image are PGC galaxies (the one at the 6:00 position is PGC14531).  The distance to IC356 is on the order of 39 million light years.  IC356 is also cataloged as ARP213.
