NGC973 and Others

This image shows several of the galaxies in the Pisces-Perseus Supercluster of galaxies.  All of these galaxies are on the order of 200 million light years away.  The edge on galaxy in the upper left (similar to the more ofter imaged NGC891) is NGC973 in Triangulum.  The galaxy to its left is IC1815.  The galaxy in the bottom middle of this image is NGC978 and the brightest two galaxies on the right side are NGC974 (nearer the bottom of the image) and NGC969 respectively.  In addition to these NGC objects, there are several dimmer PGC galaxies scattered throughout this field of view.

There is some evidence that NGC973 has an active galactic nucleus while NGC969 is a lenticular galaxy.   Note that the galaxies on the far right (just under NGC969) are two interacting galaxies with the catalog number NGC971.
