| This is a large spiral galaxy with a small nucleus. There is a high star formation rate in this galaxy and that gives it its blue color. The galaxy is a barred spiral and lies around 25 million light years away towards the constellation Ursa Major. This is one of the galaxies studied to characterize star formation rates. This galaxy is also notable for a high abundance of heavy elements and a supernova was observed here in 1999. The galaxy has two separately identified HII regions, towit NGC3180 and NGC3181. | ||||
