Description |
||||
M74, aka NGC 628, as seen through the big eye of the 1.23M scope at Calar Alto Observatory in Spain. M74 in Pisces is a face-on spiral galaxy about 30 million lightyears distant. Along with M81, M51, and 10% of spiral galaxies, M74 is considered one of the "Grand Design Spirals". Its low surface brightness makes it a difficult target for backyard visual astronomers. This image was processed as a BVR with Ha added. |
