Description

NGC2683 is a galaxy, probably a barred spiral, in the constellation Lynx.  It lies about 16 million light years away.  This galaxy has a large population of yellow stars in its center with some HIi regions located in the arms as well as some OB associations.  This galaxy is seen nearly edge on and has some of the characteristics of NGC253, the silver dollar galaxy.

If you look carefully at this image (and correlate it with a Keck study), you can likely see several globular clusters around the galaxy.  In addition, there are several background galaxies of various magnitudes in this image.  I have been able to correlate some of these with 17th magnitude PGC galaxies but there are several much dimmer galaxies in the image that I haven't been able to correlate with anything.

The data for this image had FWHM's somewhat larger than I would like to use and I may try to get some better data at another time.  Some of this data was taken at a lower elevation than I would really like to use and there were some thin clouds affecting some of the color data.  Still, this image is similar to Gendler's fine image of this object.
